2)  POST FESTIVAL FEEDBACK AND STUDENT ACTIVITY

Each year for weeks after the veg festival, we average a contact a day from students who are writing a paper on the festival or on vegetarianism  -- one of the nice ripple effects of the event!

This from the Boston University Daily Free Press:

"Healthy food a staple at vegetarian festival There was no safer place to be a cow, pig or chicken in New England this weekend than Roxbury's Reggie Lewis Athletic Center, where thousands of vegetarians and vegans feasted on soy and tested out leather alternatives to celebrate their meatless lifestyle.  Vendors packed the gymnasium with an earthy allure..."

This feedback from Maryland:

"My sister and I are from Maryland, and we attended the festival for the first time, and it was fantastic (off the chain). I learned about the festival while flying with American Airlines in their on flight magazine.  I have been a veg*n for over 25 years, and my sister was eating poultry and fish before attending the festival.  She has now decided to follow a vegan diet.  The speakers were awesome, very informative, comical, and not the least bit boring.  I learned a lot even though I’ve been veg for a long time.  I was introduced to new products that are not yet available in this area, and I was able to get contact information for those vendors.  This is a very worthwhile event, and I’m glad I came.   Oh, and we had a ball sampling all the different foods."    -- Clarice B. Pemberton-Cook

3)  JOAQUIN PHOENIX TALKS TURKEY

Academy Award nominated ("Walk the Line", "Gladiator") actor and vegan Joaquin Phoenix offers a 30 second commercial.  "Holidays can be murder on turkeys. Let’s make this one for the birds," declares Phoenix.

In this interview, Joaquin talks about the childhood fishing trip that changed his life:

8)  POINT OF VIEW

By children's book author and poet Shel Silverstein

Thanksgiving dinner's sad and thankless
Christmas dinner's dark and blue
When you stop and try to see it
From the turkey's point of view.

Sunday dinner isn't sunny
Easter feasts are just bad luck
When you see it from the viewpoint
Of a chicken or a duck.

Oh how I once loved tuna salad
Pork and lobsters, lamb chops too
Till I stopped and looked at dinner
From the dinner's point of view.
