Thank you to all who sent in such good ideas on what vegetarians would like to tell restaurant owners and managers! Dining eNewsletter and promoted on WRKO's restaurant show.

We've put the article on our website at

6) NEW BIRD FLU VIDEO LINKS FACTORY FARMING AND BIRD FLU

A new four-minute video launched by the Humane Society of the U.S. and featuring frequent BVS speaker Michael Greger, MD, offers a concise overview of the relationship between factory farming and bird flu, including: * How factory farms may have led to the emergence of H5N1. * The connection between the 1918 flu pandemic and the threat we face today. * How moving away from factory farms may rob the virus of opportunities to jeopardize the lives of millions of people.

7) SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER EDITORIAL ON CLONED MEAT

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer Editorial Board published a terrific opinion on cloned meat. It opens, "As discomforting as most Americans find the idea, the Food and Drug Administration's tentative approval for allowing the sale of cloned meat and milk makes a certain kind of sense. The plan is a logical extension of an industrialized food system that treats plants, animals and nature with an often-reckless disregard.

"For animals, it's a system of routine cruelties: docking pigs' tails, clipping chickens' beaks and taking cattle off grazing land to live their lives standing in manure in so-called confined animal feeding operations. It makes sense only to the corporate forces behind the food system that they should be able to make money and create efficiencies by replacing any form of natural reproduction with $15,000-a-shot cloning attempts."...
